The final version of my sept 11 second entry. Not happy with it but i learnt alot and im happy with that. Gonna work on uni stuff that i need to do for a presentation but also gonna do the next one apply what iv learnt.

Emotion



Hi
After working on a 11 seconds club animation i decided i needed more work on face emotions. After working on just the face (with help from www.animationscout.tv) I decided to do the rest of the body but in stall phases. Only two days work and its not perfect but it helped me understand eyebrow, eyelid and head movement which will really help in my next 11 second animation.
Speaking of which going to render either tonight or tomorrow little bit nervous to be honest but excited.

I havnt updated in a while heres some of what iv been working on

Iv spent two weeks on the September 11 second club compition. Its only two weeks before i head back to UNi and my final year project. Heres a render sneak preview and a playblast of the near complete product.





Have finished the Last animation but havnt got round to rendering i blame final gather.

Not Another Animation



Incase ur were wondering its an apple =D. I took the reflection off the wrong shader grr. The Gnomon tutorials were great taught me soo mcuh couldnt recomend them more. Going to rerender this some day but that day is not today today im playing counter strike.

Tip: use > amd < keys to cycle through the key frames also hold alt while using those keys to cycle through individual frames.

Been working on this along side Gnomon Mechanics tutorials very intresting and been taught alot highly recomend them. Got more to do leant soo much from this and some intresting new techniques.

Christmas Special



Was looking through the archives at my pre uni work. This is a drone from the never to be released game Stargate worlds . I took a piece of concept art they made and created a drone from it. Rigging it was alot harder than it looks ahhh makes me think that somehow going to university has made me worse at animation rathe than better hmm...

Baseball 2.0



ever since making the tugging the bag animating 0o i realised id forgotten to clean up the curves in baseball animation so i did so and in doing figured out a new way of rigging the bat and hands which made the animation much easier to fix and control. I prefer this version the hips are too static in the last definitely going to have to do another mechanics based animation soon.

I used the ghosting option on the bat so i could see its path through the swing. This meant i could see how the bat speed up through out make swing much smoother.

I also parented the bat to the left hand and the right hand to the left. This meant when i moved the left hand all followed. This is a handy tip if your animating with a two handed prop eg. Tennis rackets, Gold Clubs, Axes etx

Fancy Walk Cycle



Worked on this last night i wanted to do another walk cycle but with some personality i was going for a confident gliding type walk.

Next!



Got a bit carried away yesterday and made this. Filling time before the next 11 seconds competition has gotten strangely productive. Gonna add more tonight and tomorrow so fun fun.

Done maybe a day late but had some issues had to re-render. Gonna make a walk cycle by the end of the month so i can do the next 11 seconds club.

Baseball Update



Its really getting there gonna add a bit to the end and I'm really happy with this maybe end of show reel quality but hopefully not =D. i recommend any animator to do a very mechanical movement such as tennis golf or baseball swings really helps understand the movement of the human body which is handy. Next will either be a walk cycle or an emotion scene hopefully the second as iv never done that.

Well after one day gathering the motivation to do it and another day thumbnailing iv finally got a block test done. Too busy watchn tennis. I learnt alot in my last project with the bar so i have took the blocking stage alot slower and taken more care in each pose aparently pro animators can spend an entire day on each pose.... As u can see there is a weird pose every other frame this is cause the hips and shoulders dont need the passing posses but the arms. Im actually rly happy so far the starting and ending poses have a very strong line of action but the passes arnt the best and they are important.

yeah yeah another update. Basically Luke (my director) looked over the animation and gave some advise which iv taken on boarrd problem was it was unfixable. i had saved the block test speratly (tip of the day) so i could go back and start again. its getting there some of the timing isnt very good but im trying to improv it but its getting there. Can wait to start the next 11 second club comp but i think id be best sticking to this one and learning as much as possible also i need to be more dedicated to projects.

Getting there slowly but surly but still a fair bit off not looking as horiffic as it was this mourning but learning alot. the more i do the more control i feel i have which is the overall objective of practising. Still lots that needs changing including a majoy arm issue i acidently switched the in blocking so gonna hvae to go through every fram and switch back /cry!

The blocking out of my bar animation good days work put into this bit sad rly it looked great and was funny till i added the passing positions and it went to hell so plenty to do on it no way ill get it dont in time for hand in but still learning alot and having fun but now time for CSS!

with group work still in pre production i need to start building my animation skills so thx to the advise of my brilliant director iv joined the 11 seconds club and will be doing animations on that for some time. Although i cant enter this current compition im still gona make an animation with the sound clip.

Final Year Project First Update of many

Well still in second year but the time has finally came two years of waiting anticipating hoping dreaming almost as excited as at christmas at this point. it here the FINAL YEAR PROJECT! Started a group with Charlie, Luke and Stefan after about seven to eight hours of meetings weve came up with an idea were happy with. Definitally worth spending all that time as Pixar and Dreamworks always say its all about the story. So now were decided Pre Production has began im in charge on animation (ofc) already doing out some key poses on paper. Lukes the director which will be good its nice to be doing one of our ideas no som1 elses and picking our own groups. U might be wondering whats the big deal? This work is representing the last three years of my eduction career this is what ill be showing of 2 get me a job i fal this no1 will hire me and its back to selling sandwhichs except this time 4 the rest of my life. this is show reel teritory not to be taken lightly! we got a great group all have our own strenghts great idea we only finilised today only problem is were not in third year yet which sucks but gives five months of pre production (and a few bits of sneaky production).
We gonna do a recorded version first soo that is guarnteed to be hilarous i need it for refrence material but it wil b fun to make as well. serously excited will update soon with concept few of which will be mine. EXCITED!

Group Work Final



This is my group work project we got done a while ago it looks great. I did any animation you see from my original play blasts some was changed and animated by someone else to shorten it down. We had a one min max limit and i was sick and sadly unable to do it myself. And i modelled the office and the corridor. All in all it went well. not to blow my own trumpet but i worked very hard on this i seen how other groups were panicing when they had earlier hand ins so i joined them even though mine was later and i did alot of work. Got alot of compliments about my animation so im very happy about that just wish i didnt get sick and could put my animation stamp on the whole subject. Enjoy it, its very funny.

May be slow on posts from now till end of the month as it is exam time and iv got lots to learn but then the holidays will come and i haven't got a job so lots of time for show reel quality work.

Specialist Project FINAL!



ITS DONE!! HAZZA!!!! After a late night rendering i finished my project very happy. Ofc i got super sick three days before hand in and had to work while being sick which was interesting but its done didnt have sounds and some issues with the version i handed in but still im happy with it a very interesting project.

WELL after many many many many hours im getting there closing in on the final product spent longer rigging it than any thing else hmm rigging a house... BUT im nearly happy still needs camera animation b4 rendering but with a max one minute render time rendering dosnt need a weeks notice. Having HORRIFIC issues with mental ray atm i can put the main plane head structure on when im rendering it as it causes mental ray to freeze or crash soo all my renders are with out it i think it runs out of ram well atleast thats (Travis - Re-Offender AWSOME!) what maya software says but im not sure but it does render when i take into its own file /cry. Hopfully it will all work when i render it in the labs very tempted not to render in the labs so the video is my property not the universities hmm not sure bit big headed of me to think they'll use it =p TIP:: When ur copying a render style like i have get images of what u want to copy and take swatches from that image even if there are two completely different objects the colour scheme still works well. is that cheating? i think it crosses the line into borrowing.

Specialist Project Update #4




Working on these renders for a while now surprised about how good they look but render times even on production only 27 seconds!!! going for a cell shaded wind waker look only done the engine part so far got the rest to do and only 9 days to do it not too concerned as yet Firfly and coffee are helping me get through so what if iv watched the series about 5 times now its the best TV series ever!

Group work Update #3



Well its been an extremely busy past week but i think im 99% done thank goodness don't think it'll ever be 100% every time i watch it theres something i want to change all in all im quite happy with it but man am i glad i didn't have to animate a character prob put in 10 to 20 hours and this is just essentially the same animation level as the bouncing ball a 50 second full character animation would have taken me months i finally understand why it takes the pro's so long.

AND OFC with any work i produce here comes the confessions =p well none really fully my fault there are different textures for each doll and there will be different expressions and ofc sound. also the editing sticks but didn't spend any time on it when its not the final i just wanted to make this to show off.

Found out i have a specialist project to be done b4 the end of the easter holidays half glad i looked up the timetable and worried about getting it done prob why iv been crunching on my portion of the group work to get it done and out of the way. Worried i might not pass this year all cause of one essay grrr not happy but im working harder than most so hopefully it'll all work out it always seems to.... hmm.

This is a sneak preview of our group project the corridor with shadows this time and characters in it too think there too bright gonna turn down the translucence and clean up shadows AND get rid of that red glow being caused by the final gather. =p




Animated all but one shot thats 5/6 not really sure whats goin on in that shot gonna make 3 and let the director choose but all in all group work going very well just need to apply render settings and check over all my animation fix anything thats wrong soo still a fair bit of work will do that sunday and ill have all my section of the group work done <3 soo happy just my specialist project and two exams too go =( hmmm

FINALLY putting a video up of acctual animation all be it not great animation worked on this for bout 3 days started as a basic run added a jump and a canyon. Havnt got my Richard Willams book on animation atm =( so it will get better when i reread his chapter on running BRILLIANT BOOK!. Need to work on the landing but i'm reasonably happy with it gonna keep working on it. I enjoyed this one i rarly work on a project for longer than a day so its nice to be getting more loyal to each project.

I did a run cycle before i did a walk cycle i guess u could say i learnt to run before i learnt to walk muahahahah bad joke =(

OFC this is just a basic run going to add some personality next maybe fear or joy dont know yet.

ahh the labs!

Well just had an all nighter in the labs getting my OpenGL assigment done which im glad to say i have went v.well with help from Charlie Banks! Took today off too recover but tomorrow after i get home!!! i will get back to work finishing up on my walk cycle which i want to be amazing.

As for easter starting to think about my final year project most likely going to be working in a group with friends to get team enviroment experience but i want to come up with an idea and get started as soon as possible to make it as good as i need to be. What ever idea i choose ill b animating so wants it to be animation heavy to get a good load of work done!

Work Update

Wow two months since my last post well iv been extremally busy ton of dead lines have came and passed so been mainly workn on them. As for the animation side did a bit of modeling and animation since my last post modeling was easy enuf still love modeling animation went well made me laugh will have a finished product soon with that so should be good its group work so cant take too muchh credit but heres some of the stuff i modeled for it all modeled lit and shaded by myself. will upload some of my drawns soon enuf need to make sure there good enuf for public viewing





Apart from this been mainly workn on programing with OpenGL makes me wanna cry but getn VERY!!! slowly though it not my cup of T for a career ill stick to animation.

HMMMM not happy lol all the work iv sone so far has lost a certain spark it looks good and the get the idea but it dosnt quite have that alive quality more like a beno comic than a animation no offense beno<3 After a comparision of my work and the beautiful Ms Gomez iv decided to go back and work on the design of my micky the limitations of the quality of design have rly not made getting emotion and life of the character..

Animation Beginning

Hmm been reasonably busy recently its not like me to let myself get busy but without the distraction of T.V i feel a sort of RPG desire to improve myself. After a failed attempt to choose a career i decided to play around with animation and iv found it more enjoyabe, expressive and fun than any other art form iv tried so iv decided i wanna be an animator. As you might have noticed im writing this is past tense so iv already done a fair bit of work four pieces of work i think but i wanted to explain my process maybe to help or more likly to explain why its so bad justify my failings somewhat the expert on that.

The Ball:
After reading "The illusion of life" Disney <3 well the animation section anyway i decided to start with the bouncing ball that was easy did so i moved onto the sac. Gonna upload it as an animation at some point BUT for now it'll just be the image Sorz....
